Stress

Stress has a big impact on our mental, physical, and emotional health. Stress, in a clinical sense, refers to events that cause an individual great discomfort and distress. There are many different types of stress with their own characteristics, symptoms, durations and treatments. 

Acute Stress

Acute stress is the most common form of stress. 

Symptoms include:

  • Increased heart rate

  • Increased blood pressure

  • Chest pain

  • Headache

  • Irritability

  • Stomach pain

The symptoms last for a short time, until the stressed feeling subsides.

Episodic Acute Stress is less common and a little more serious than Acute. 

The symptoms are similar to Acute Stress, but can extend to depression and anxiety if left untreated.

  • Staying away from drugs and alcohol 

  • Taking a break from what is causing the stress and doing a loved activity
